I have loved perfume all my life.
I’m an olfactory girl. Wait, no, no, no… I’m not a smelly girl, I mean, I’m a scent gallon I love fragrances, from laundry detergent to perfume.
When I took it upon myself to educate myself on using safer products on my body and in our home, a major element was avoiding fragrances. In fact, I have an entire blog post about fragrances and why I avoid most fragrances in products.
I was pretty disheartened when I learned that all the divine scents I love, from my shampoo and body wash to the laundry soap left on warm clothes, may actually not be so healthy for you.
But when you know better, you can do better.
The fragrance loophole
So now that you have a general understanding of the “fragrance loophole” and the secrets hidden in so many fragrances, I’m excited to share that Beautycounter has entered the chat with their innovative product. clean perfume water They have spent more than 10 years preparing it!!
Beautycounter Clean Eau de Parfum Review
I’ll start with my personal review before getting into the technical reasons why these are great fragrances to buy. Because if you don’t love the smell, you’re not going to use the perfume no matter how good the brand is.
I first tried Beautycounter fragrances with last year’s Christmas collection. sun spill and Kilometers of distance They were good, but I knew none of them were going to be my signature scent. Then Beautycounter announced three new scents: Second skin, hyper pinkand Pacific Dreams. I got the following scent wheel as part of our training materials and did some research on previous perfumes that I loved – I knew Floral Amber was my favorite type of perfume. I couldn’t wait to try the new scents and was sure I would like at least one enough to wear regularly.
Let’s talk about aromas
What are high, middle and low notes?
A fragrance consists of a complex combination of multiple aromatic layers called “notes.” Together, they create a unique profile.
- Main notes: These are the “first impression” notes that you smell first. The top notes make an impact and evaporate quickly.
- Middle notes: These are the “heart” of the fragrance. The middle notes add character and help connect the high and low notes.
- Basic notes: These are the richest notes. The base notes complete the fragrance and last longer.
My favorite scents, in order
Turns out he was right! Floral amber is my favorite category. And Second Skin is my absolute favorite!
Second skin – floral amber
Layers of sweet citrus peek through a gauzy, elegant blend of white jasmine, silky vanilla cream and delicate, moist muguet with comforting notes of buttery-soft sandalwood.
- Top: bergamot, pink grapefruit, blood orange, lemon
- Middle: white jasmine, rose, cinnamon leaf, lily of the valley.
- Base: vanilla cream, sandalwood, musk, amber
Kath’s Notes: Second Skin reminds me of my all-time favorite perfume (Joan Vass Amethyst) and others say it’s similar to Coco Mademoiselle. It’s definitely not a very strong perfume and it doesn’t have much musk. I find it very wearable and it is now my signature scent that I wear every day when I get ready.
Hyper pink – soft flowers
Juicy apple blossom, sweet gardenia and spicy cassis cut through a blooming bouquet of full-bodied Turkish rose, wrapped in cashmere wood for a warm, sensual softness.
- Top notes: bergamot, cassis
- Middle notes: Turkish rose absolute, gardenia and apple blossom.
- Base notes: cedar wood, cashmere woods.
Kath’s Notes: Hyper Rose is the sweetest of all. It’s floral but not overtly “pink.” I’m always a little tired of rose smelling too “strong” (for lack of a better word) and this one is sweet and balanced with just a hint of rose. It reminds me a lot of Le Labo’s Rose 31 scent.
Pacific Dreams – aquatic citrus
A sparkling blend of lemon and bergamot brings a warm, sunny sweetness to the salty aromas of marine accords elevated by fresh Egyptian jasmine, fresh musk and cedar wood.
- Top notes: sparkling lemon, bergamot, lavender
- Middle notes: orange flower, jasmine and marine accord.
- Base notes: cedar wood, vetiver and crisp musk.
Kath’s Notes: Pacific Dreams reminds me a lot of D&G Light Blue! It is VERY “aquatic” and fresh, the most musky, and what I would say is perfect for date night or a party. You will get noticed wearing this scent! I love it once it’s worn in a little, like putting on a sweatshirt that I had on the day before. Some men really like it too!
Sun spill – citrus floral
Bright, uplifting notes of grapefruit and sweet neroli shine through a lush blend of rich jasmine, velvety rose and spicy coriander, combined with herbaceous vetiver for a freshly cut finish.
- Top notes: grapefruit, neroli
- Middle notes: rose petals, jasmine and coriander.
- Base notes: vetiver, cedar wood
Kath’s Notes: Sun Spill is the fruity scent of the lot and literally smells like sunshine in a bottle. I like it, but I really miss that “amber” profile on this one. But if you don’t like ambers, this would be a great choice! It has been compared to Chanel Chance and Clinque Happy.
Kilometers of distance – woody green
Spicy notes of lemon and Italian bergamot bring balance to a warm, woody blend of sandalwood, cedar and juniper berry, infused with fresh jasmine and calming chamomile.
- Top notes: lemon, bergamot.
- Middle notes: chamomile, jasmine, juniper berry
- Base notes: cedar, sandalwood, vetiver
Kath’s Notes: Miles away there is plenty of forest and perhaps the most masculine of the bunch. If you like fresh, woody scents, this one is for you! It has been compared to Le Labo’s Santal 31. It’s a little too strong for me, but I like to mix it with other fragrances.

Safety, transparency and performance are fundamental pillars for the creation of Beautycounter fragrances.
Security: Hundreds of chemicals can be used to make a single fragrance, some of which are linked to hormonal disruptions, cancer, and skin allergies (among other effects). Beautycounter goes beyond cleanliness by evaluating each and every ingredient against 23 environmental and human health criteria.
Transparency: “Fragrance” or “perfume” are terms you’ll find on the ingredient lists of many cosmetic products, an unfortunate and unnecessary industry practice that can hide hundreds of ingredients. For Beautycounter, transparency equals trust, which is why you will find all the ingredients used to formulate Beautycounter products listed on the packaging and on the website. As a reminder, just because an ingredient list is long, or even if you can’t pronounce some of the ingredients, doesn’t mean the formula is unsafe. It simply means that more is being revealed, so you know exactly what you are putting into your body.
Performance: Beautycounter fragrances were created in partnership with a leading fine fragrance house and top international perfumers. They worked closely together to create high-performance scents that smell luxurious.
