Can you bake frozen salmon? This is the wrong question.
The right question is: “Why haven’t you tried baking frozen salmon?” Maybe you are one of those people who always has everything under control and remembers to take the salmon out of the freezer to defrost it.
I’m not one of those people.
I’m the type who realizes she forgot to defrost dinner when she walks in the door and starts ringing up the takeout. Do not do it!
Instead, go ahead and bake the frozen salmon. It takes a little longer (about 5-10 minutes in the oven) but it turns out completely wonderful!
I keep coming back to frozen salmon because it’s so good for your health and it’s sustainably farmed. Review the Seafood clock website for the latest news on sustainable salmon.
Salmon is one of those foods rich in protein and low in saturated fat. I wish it were less expensive because I would eat it more often. This BBC article on the health benefits of salmon is an excellent resource to convince you to try it.
I’ve featured how to cook frozen salmon in the oven, which is almost the same recipe as this one, except it uses dried dill and lemon.
Also, I have a baked salmon and asparagus recipe that will work with frozen salmon. Simply add 5 to 10 minutes to the recipe.
I sprayed aluminum foil with nonstick spray in an attempt to keep cleanup to a minimum. You don’t need to use aluminum foil or anything under the fish. Place the frozen salmon skin side down on the tray.
Then you add salt, pepper and the brown sugar and mustard mixture.
For the brown sugar and mustard mixture, adjust to your taste. Some of you may not want ANY amount of sugar. I find a 50/50 mix to be pretty good, but I also like just the mustard when I’m in a hurry. Try the mixture to see what you think!
It only takes 15 minutes in a 400 F oven to cook it (maybe up to 20 depending on the oven).
Have you tried baking frozen salmon? How did it turn out?
